My New Favorite Granola: Product Review of Purely Elizabeth Granola

Confession: I am a granola fiend. Come to think of it, that would have been a great title for my blog, The Granola Fiend. Oh well. I digress. My love for granola knows no bounds. My husband and friends can attest to the fact that I love ordering granola whenever I am out for brunch.

"Why don't you try today's egg special?" my exasperated husband will ask.

"Why are you always ordering granola?" my best friend wonders.

"Look at you, eating healthy," the waiter might say.

I have heard all these comments, really, I have. And I would like to personally respond to each.

Hubby: I don't want eggs, the granola here is awesome!

Best friend: I order it all the time because I friggin love it!

Waiters: It's actually not that healthy. Do you know how calorific granola can be???

So now that my love for granola is out in the open you will understand how thrilled I was when I won Foodtrainer's Purely Elizabeth granola giveaway!

Purely Elizabeth makes gluten-free, certified vegan granola without any refined sugar and instead utilizes ingredients such as raw virgin coconut oil, chia seeds, amaranth and quinoa.

I was super-excited to win the giveaway and even more thrilled once the package arrived.

I received three boxes, each, a different flavor: Original, Pumpkin Fig and Cranberry Pecan.

The Pumpkin Fig intrigued me the most so I poured myself a bowl of coconut milk and dug into that first.

I am a granola connoisseur, I think we have established that, and I thought it was excellent! I can't think of any other word that would describe it aptly enough!

The granola was outrageously delicious. I tasted sweet and salty at the same time and the toasted oats provided a delicious crunch. There was no overt pumpkin flavor - I think that the raw pumpkin seeds provide all the 'pumpkin' in this cereal. The figs added a nice jamminess though.

I moved onto the Original flavor next and it was just as amazing. The granola is the same-it's just missing the extras (figs etc).

The Cranberry Pecan was my least favorite. Don't misunderstand me-it's awesome also but I am not a fan of cranberries in my cereal and so it was my least favorite of the three.

My favorite? Definitely the Original! So if you like granola try it out, you will not be disappointed.

The nutritional content of the Original flavor is as follows:

Note: I was not compensated for this post. I received three boxes of the Purely Elizabeth granola in a giveaway and was not asked by Purely Elizabeth or Foodtrainers for a product review. The opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Question: What is your favorite breakfast item? I think we already know mine.

Sounds awesome! I can't really eat granola because of my stomach but I used to love the Bear Naked banana nut granola. These Purely Elizabeth flavors sound wonderful.

I am not at all like you. I love brunch for the pancakes, french toast, eggs, waffles, etc.

I LOVE granola too. I make my own for most of the winter, but in spring and summer, I usually buy it. I'll take your word for it and give it a try!

My favorite breakfast item, though, is probably oatmeal... to which I do sometimes add granola. Hmmm, haha.

Dori: French toast is a close second to granola for me. I had the most divine french toast with strawberries and lemon curd a few weekends ago!

Ellen: I'm going to try experimenting with my own granola recipes also. I never realized how easy it was.

I love granola too Sam! But I have a secret to share...it is so unbelievably easy to make that you'll never need to win a contest again. There are a whole bunch of recipes on the internet, depending on what you want to put in or exclude, but I make my on the stovetop, in about 8 minutes. And even my husband loves it! That's saying something, trust me. :)

fun fact: my blog used to be called 'crunchy granola gal.' partially related to my formerly crunchy granola lifestyle, the other to my love for the stuff. i ate so much of it for years that i honestly can't even remember the last time i had any, i got so sick of it! but anyway, this sounds delicious, especially coming from a granola connoisseur! ;) my favorite breakfast food is definitely greek yogurt when i'm playing nice, and bagels when i'm being fierce. today was a bagel day, hands down.

Yay, so glad you liked it. I used it before the brooklyn 1/2 with some fruit tossed in. Smoothies are for me what granola is to you. I love smoothies though only the homemade type. Ameena- I don't think I could improve on Elizabeth's granola it's flavorful and crunchy and...perfect but I will try making some one day.
Sofia- I recall your blog, what is it called now?

Looks like delicious granola to me! I too am a big fan of the G. But, I have to ration it out carefully when it's in our house or I will eat the entire package in one sitting. My tummy knows no end to the granola consumption.

This granola sounds great especially the pumpkin flavor. I tried making granola bars for the first time this weekend. They were easy to make and tasted great, although they didn't look too pretty. I think the granola bars actually look like granola. My favorite breakfast is a hearty muffin or bread with Peanut Butter & Co. Cinnamon Raisin Swirl peanut butter and fresh peach raspberry jam from the farmer's market,

Oh I LOVE granola, but sadly I can't eat honey, or dried fruit, which is found in so many types of granolas. This is why I make my own, and my granola is my FAVORITE breakfast! With some Greek yogurt and berries :) Oh, and I also love eggs!!

Ugh I lovveeee granola but sometimes I feel like it's a waste of food... you're only allowed such a small amount for so many calories! And I don't like yogurt very much, so granola stumps me. I don't know what to do with it!

Ameena: I'm a little late on the do-it-yourself granola bandwagon but now that I'm up to speed I shall totally be trying out my own recipes.

Sofia: What a great name for a blog! I love it. Yes, I need to be careful with my granola consumption lest I too find myself sick to death of it.

Lauren: Thanks so much for introducing me to it. I am going to try making my own but I will continue to treat myself to some Purely Elizabeth.

You should check out Sofia's awesome blog-it's called Insightful Appetite.

Pink Lady: Peach raspberry jam? Hmm, need to make a trip to the farmers' market soon.

Cameo: I hate how the serving sizes on the side of the box are so miniscule. I almost always want to eat more than the recommended serving size! Yes, portion control is mega important here.

Sam @ Mom at the Barre said...

Gina: I honestly prefer granola without any dried fruits. I like nuts though. And I'm not a big fan of honey either. So I'm sure you're not missing much by making your own. In fact that way you can tailor it exactly to your liking.

Sam @ Mom at the Barre said...

Sharon: I always go over the recommended serving size! As a result I can't eat it every day. I like it with almond or soy milk, more than with yogurt.

This granola sounds so good! I'm not a huge granola fan because of it's high calorie content, but this one sounds like a good option.

Jess: It's delicious!
