I'm doing it this year too and cannot be more excited.

2 things that really helped me when I was training for my first marathon:
1. compression sleeves for my calves on long runs. made a huge difference and I wasn't as sore
2. ice baths. they sound terrible, and let's be honest, kind of are. but they definitely help with soreness and recovery after those long runs

Good luck with the training!Erin Masihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05788404602005718966noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4023223824562915750.post-23193303388416174932012-07-18T12:29:02.537-07:002012-07-18T12:29:02.537-07:00Congrats on the job and running the marathon this ...Congrats on the job and running the marathon this year! I would say a) get your long runs in no matter what b) don't worry about your pace, unless you're super fast doesn't matter and c) my favorite Scott Jurek quote, "pain only hurts".Laurenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17713676282787688389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4023223824562915750.post-23605181687737673832012-07-17T19:47:20.708-07:002012-07-17T19:47:20.708-07:00Scary about the burn! I am sure you will find time to get in most of the runs. In comparison, I just started half marathon training with a MUCH more difficult plan and I miss my marathon plan! I now am a soul cycle and barre girl with shorter runs mixed in when I get the iurge.

My number one piece of advice is to enjoy it. Fuel properly and don't stress about time. Like you said a marathon is hard. It's ok to skip a practice if you're exhausted but training is 90%. I also found my best running was done when I had a strong core and arms. Specific to NYC.... Start out slowly. It's so energetic you can pop out of te gate and over the bridge super fast.y first two miles averaged 90 seconds slower than my total race average pace and my fastest miles were at the end. I didn't end the race feeling the worst ever which was key for me! Good luck!Jenhttp://runjltrun.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
